September 9, 2013 – Los Angeles – Mark Arthur Miller, son of the late Motown songwriter, Ron Miller, debuted his EP, Soul Searching, in August. Mark will return by popular demand to Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood on October 15th at 8:30pm. Catalina Jazz Club, one of Los Angeles’ premiere entertainment venues, is located at: 6725 West Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, one block east of Highland Ave. (entrance is on McCadden Place). Phone (323) 466-2210 for reservations.

Soul Searching includes original music by Mark Arthur Miller, some of Mark’s favorite R&B and American Songbook compositions, and music by the great Ron Miller, the Motown songwriter who composed “For Once in My Life,” “Touch Me In The Morning,” “Heaven Help Us All” and string of other major hits.  Soul Searching will become a full-length album shortly, according to Mark.

Mark’s smoking hot band includes his co-producer and co-arranger, keyboard player/vocalist Peter Smith, Jon Stuart on Drums, Nate Light on Bass, Earl Alexander on Guitar, William Artope on Trumpet, Aaron West on Sax and vocalists Laura Mace & Maiya Sykes.  Mark Miller and the girls are just crazy good.

“The recording has been a while coming, and the title reveals why, ” says the singer.

Growing up in Chicago with his sister, mother and grandparents and estranged from his dad, Mark Miller had a visceral connection to soul music he couldn’t explain until he heard Stevie Wonder’s 1968 single “For Once in My Life” one day and realized it was Ron Miller’s song. Less than three hundred miles away in Detroit, the elder Miller was writing the kind of music Mark describes as “my DNA.”  In the 1970’s, the Miller teenagers re-connected with their father and moved with him to Los Angeles when Motown relocated their headquarters.

In 1994, he began singing, performing in Los Angeles clubs MBar, Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill, The Cinegrill, and The Gardenia Room. Ron Miller was often in the audience until his death in 2007.

“I love music, period,” says Mark.  “I started out singing jazz, and I love Sondheim and rock and pop. But I had to admit that after awhile I was turning every single arrangement into Rhythm & Blues. That is my heart.”

Mark Arthur Miller will return to Catalina Jazz with Soul Searching on October 15th at 8:30pm.  Catalina is at 6725 West Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood.
