The O’Farrill Family Band with Arturo O’Farrill, Adam O’Farrill(trumpet), Zack O’Farrill(drums), Livio Almeida (tenor saxophone), Boris Kozlov (bass), celebrating one of the first families in modern jazz, Latin and otherwise. In the Renaissance, an artistic family was not considered to be “serious” or “established” until three full generations of creative and productive talents had demonstrated significant artistic output and contribution to society. Working extensively with all three generations of these genial and gifted individuals from Chico to Arturo to Zack and Adam has been one of the most satisfying and meaningful parts of my own 50+-year-journey in jazz. Currently also working with Arturo on new ALJO cd with the Orchestra and all manner of special guests and varied and totally challenging settings ranging from Vijay Iyer to Donald Harrison to DJ Logic and a fiery Puerto Rican poet to a celestial choir to a big band version of a haunting Erik Satie theme with Spanish vocals. This night we will also be celebrating the release of the new O’Farrill Brothers CD SENSING FLIGHT.
