The last time Alex Wilson was in Lebanon he was stuck in a hotel band playing piano at a club in Kaslik. Contracted for three months, the experience was so bad he left after just one.

“The management of that place was terrible, we were stuck in a hotel on a hill, couldn’t really move around, everything that could go wrong went wrong,” he says.

On Thursday, February 27 at 8 PM in the Juilliard Theater, the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra plays music of big band innovator Stan Kenton in a concert entitled Stan: The Music of Stan Kenton. Victor Goines, Artistic Director of Jazz Studies at Juilliard, conducts. The first half of the program includes such Kenton signature works as Artistry in Rhythm, Opus in Pastels, Youngblood, Concerto to End All Concertos, What’s New?, Interlude, and Kingfish. The second half of the concert features Cuban Fire Suite, Kenton’s famously exciting combination of big-band power and Cuban rhythms.
