The article looked back at the concert at Massey Hall in Toronto on May 15, 1953, when Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Max Roach, Charles Mingus and Bud Powell played together as The Quintet, a performance often described as one of the greatest jazz concerts ever recorded.

For the 50th anniversary, Massey Hall staged a new concert with Herbie Hancock, Roy Haynes, Roy Hargrove, Dave Holland and Kenny Garrett, alongside a symposium and a tribute to Max Roach, the only surviving member of the original quintet. The piece also told how the young members of the New Jazz Society of Toronto organized the 1953 event.
