JazzTrenzz: Between Sets with Mike Longo

Originally published on eJazzNews · · By Karl Stober · Interviews

In this installment of the JazzTrenzz interview series, Karl Stober spoke with pianist Mike Longo about Oasis, his 2004 album with the New York State of the Art Jazz Ensemble on Consolidated Artists Productions.

Longo explained why he called the record contrapuntal music with a forward-propelling melodic force: independent melodic lines that trade motion and rest, so that one keeps the music moving while another pauses. The album's 17 tracks include The Godfather, Bag of Bones and Lazy Afternoon.
