Miroslav Vitous: Universal Syncopations (ECM)
John Kelman reviewed Universal Syncopations, bassist Miroslav Vitous's first album under his own name in ten years, with saxophonist Jan Garbarek, pianist Chick Corea, guitarist John McLaughlin and drummer Jack DeJohnette.
Kelman called it one of the best releases of 2003 and compared it to Vitous's 1969 debut Infinite Search, but heard the music as a series of collective tone poems rather than a blowing session.
