Singer Lhasa de Sela Passed Away in Her Montreal Home

eJazzNews reported that singer Lhasa de Sela died at her home in Montreal on the night of January 1, 2010, after a 21-month illness with breast cancer. During that time she completed her last album and presented it in Montreal and Paris, before cancelling an international tour planned for autumn 2009.

The notice recalled that she was born on September 27, 1972, in Big Indian, New York, spent much of her childhood traveling through Mexico and the United States with her family, and became known internationally with La Llorona in 1997, followed by The Living Road in 2003 and Lhasa in 2009.
